Work and Age Trust

In 1999, the Trustees after consultation with many of the people involved in the activities decided that the time had arrived for the activities of the trust to refocus.  A new Trust Deed was drawn up and set the purposeand objectives of the new Trust as

The "Purpose" of the Trust shall be to stimulate mature people to take control of their work life directions and to foster their personal growth.

The "Objectives" of the Trust shall be to obtain the highest possible client satisfaction in conjunction with the Trust Board's service providers, and to be recognised as a leader in the delivery of work life services affecting mature people.

The Trust Deed establishing the Work and Age Trust NZ Inc was signed on 7 October 1999

Board of Trustees

The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees.  The Trustees are elected by the membership although there is power in the constitution for the Board to co-opt others.

A bit of historical perspective

The current Trust grew out of the Mature Wellington Employment Trust had been an active part of the Wellington Emloyment and work scene in Wellington since 1993.

The service provided from the Trusts offices were focussed in assisting people to make the transition from

  • long - term unemployed back to employment, and
  • people made redundant to return to the workforce

During those years, many people in middle management positions found themselves made redundant in their work places and difficult to find work.  M.E.W. assisted over 3000 people to find a means of supporting themselves when their skills and experience were not valued because of age and other factors.

In evaluating the directions to be taken by the new Work and Age Trust, the Trustees determined a new focus and direction.  This was reflected in the Trust Deed and the operation of the Trust from that point.
