NEWORK - What are we about? (Our Story)
NEWORKERS are people questioning the long held norms around working life. NEWORK provides the catalyst, the stimulation, the space, and the challenges to change the status quo for those who wish to live their lives in new ways.
A driving force behind the establishment of NEWORK was the massive organisational changes in the NZ workforce during the last 15 years of the 20th Century. Many people thrown out of their career for life complacency, started to re think their lives and especially the work part of it. Thinkers such as the UK management philosopher Charles Handy assisted by providing a framework with his "portfolio worker" concept.
Other drivers have included the desire with better work life balance, people who have never clearly defined their work passion, the desire to "break out" and be more creative work, and as the working population ages - the need to break out of the "rat race".
NEWORK is a movement. It aims to stimulate people of like mind to collaborate, share their successes, and to collectively educate others that there can be new ways of thinking and acting around our working lives.
